Tattoo Commission WIP 2

Third time's the charm! The client wasn't happy with the cloak, so I redrew that - however I still wasn't happy with it! So I took some extra time to redraw it again. Hopefully third time's the charm and the client is happy with this version. :-)

The Tainted Crown Cover - WIP1

I've just finished painting the bookcover for my book, The Tainted Crown, and I'll be uploading a WIP a day to show you how I went about painting it! I'll also post an animated walkthrough file after posting all the still snapshots so you can see the progress snaps layered on top of one another.

Enjoy :-)

Dynamo WIP 1

It's underway... Feels great as always to draw! I'm using another different method this time - this will be the first time I've used a watercolour pencil instead of a normal pencil for sketching... I'm hoping it will blend much better with the marker pen base layer... We shall see!

About 30 minutes drawing time so far after prepping the paper and reference image.

Hermione Granger Miniature

Yay, I finished my drawing of Hermione Granger! A teeny portrait 2.5 x 3.5 inches big, which took 8 hours to draw. Miniature portraits are surprisingly fun!

I feel like I didn't capture her likeness as exactly as could be possible so I will just be happy if she is recognisable! However, with practice I can hone my realism skills again :-)

I hope you like - enjoy!

Hermione WIP 5

6 and a half hours down on this so far! This photo is again bigger than the original which is 2.5 x 3.5 inches. I'm getting closer to finishing this now - still need to refine the hand and add some more details. I also feel a bit of a niggle with the face, I just can't seem to get that shadowed cheek right, so I will persevere on.

Enjoy,

Meg

Hermione WIP 4

This is still at the 5 hour stage; I thought I'd share a better quality photo of it! This photo is bigger than the original so you can start to see the grain of the paper.

I wouldn't be surprised if this piece tokk me 10 hours!

Hermione WIP 3

5 hours so far on this! Now I've started refining it with colour pencils.

- Meg

Hermione WIP 2

3 hours work so far on this with Coptic sketch markers and letraset promarkers. A lot of effort for a piece 2.5 x 3.5 inches big!

Guess who's drawing again! Can you guess who it is yet?

3D Art - WIPs 1 & 2

Hi,

Here are some better quality photos of the progress on my latest doodle. :-) I quite like how this is coming along, although it's not quite as good as it was in my head - mainly because the green background is my first real foray into watercolours and oh my, they are hard to use! I don't have the skill to get the desired effect unfortunately. But the colour is exactly what I wanted at least. :-)

I also made the stupid mistake of not checking BOTH my brown markers were water proof... turns out the one I used for the very fine detail isnt.... well done, Meg! *facepalm* Not sure how to get around that to paint the face as the eye, eyebrow and ear details are all drawn using the non waterproof pen... excellent haha.

3D art - sketch

I sketched something! :O I'm in shock haha. This will be a 3d piece that I hope will be good enough to put on my wall :) this isn't intended as a masterpiece... I'm just trying to get my hands to remember what it feels to draw and my mind what it feels to be creative! It's been too long. Far too long.

Enjoy :)

The Firebird WIP 9

Ok, it's been a while since I updated this! Life has gone into fifth gear, but this week I have a bit of time. Maybe I'll work on this again this week although I'm not sure, as I'm not feeling in a very "pro colouring pencil" mood! We shall see. Anyway, basic marker colours are down on the second phoenix. Me likey.

Enjoy!

The Firebird WIP 8 (aka Eagle sketch 8)

Another shot... it's starting to come together now! This is last night's work. :-)

And since this isn't an eagle anymore as I am making it into a phoenix with the clour scheme I thought it about time to rename this piece. :-)

Enjoy!

Eagle sketch 6

Colour scheme test on a photocopy.. I think I like this one so I'll stick with it :)

Enjoy!

Meg

Eagle Sketch 5

First large size and high quality image of this piece. Next step is to photocopy what I've done and mock up a colour scheme. I feel easier about scribbling colours on a photocopy to test them out rather than risk screwing up an original I'm already really starting to like!

Enjoy!

Eagle sketch 4

Underway with the colouring now! Base of markers - copics - topped with colour pencils to add the depth of shading. Having fun! But sadly have to stop for today :(

Enjoy,

Meg
P.s. sorry for the poorer quality pics - I'm uploading direct from my phone. No fancy photography!

Eagle sketch 3

Have neatly lined this now..... next step is to rub out all my shading and put down the base colour layer! This is the part that I'm most nervous about...

Enjoy,

Meg

Eagle sketch 2

Ok, both eagles sketched now, albeit in a basic fashion! Will come back to this to correct anatomy and hopefully by then I'll know how I want to colour it! Hmm... natural colours, phoenix colours or peacock colours or rainbow.... I don't know! So much choice.....

Anyway, enjoy!

Meg

Eagle Sketch

Have started a random sketch tonight.... just fancied a drawing session, using something different as a stimulus. I'm going to add in a profile shot too to the right of this. I don't know how to colour this! Pencil realism sketch.. or markers and colour pencils, or go markers and colour pencils but with an abstract colour scheme (I'm feeling peacock or phoenix colours)... what do you think?

Enjoy!

Contest Prize Drawing - Golden Druid

I volunteered some prizes for a contest that :iconanthro-fantasy-club: ran a few months ago - this was the prize for first place.

This is:icongoldendruid:'s character Golden Druid, who is a feral druid that can shapeshift. This was a nice, quick piece that flowed well. I enjoyed drawing this. :-) I used a pose reference from posemaniacs.com that I chanced upon this morning for the pose.

3 prizes drawn, one left!

Enjoy!

The Last Tea - WIP 8

I've done quite a bit of work on this stage! I'm really enjoying the shading so far. The armour is SO fun to shade! I've spent two hours on this so far tonight. Now I'm off to go and write for a bit. Ah, I love creative free time... :-)

Enjoy!

The Last Tea WIP 7

I've started shading now, adding textures and tones. My favourite part so far is the sock. I have no idea why, but that was one fun sock to colour!  I use a lot of layers in my paintings, so things are shaded in groups - for example the armour is on one layer, the chainmail another, the pants another, the socks another (etc). I find it helps me not to end up recolouring over other areas accidentally when I'm shading, so it saves me time. Anyway, enjoy. I'd do more right now but I need food first! Artists need fuel too haha.

The Last Tea - WIP 6

I've added a colour scheme, but I'm expecting the client will want to change it. Still, it gives a better indication of the design in colour than a blank lineart. :-)

Enjoy!

Meg

The Last Tea - WIP 5

I've finalised the lineart now so I can proceed to colouring, yay! I fixed some annoying anatomy issues, repositioned the canvas and also added a katana / sword as per client request.

Enjoy!

The Last Tea - WIP4

The lineart is finished! Hopefully so, anyway. Next I can begin colouring, and I'm really looking forward to that part! :-) I just need the client to approve lineart first and discuss a colour scheme.

Enjoy!

The Last Tea - WIP 3

I'm having so much fun working on this! The geisha I am finding easier to draw as I'm more fmailiar with drawing women, but the samurai is an interesting challenge. The armour is so intricate and new to me ... it's really fun to draw! I'm already looking forward to returning to this piece in my next drawing session. :-)

Enjoy!

The Last Tea - WIP 1

This is the first work in progress for a commission I'm working on. It's eventually to be incorporated into a tattoo design and the drawing itself is themed around "the last tea" where a wife serves her husband his last cup of tea before he marches off to war. It's been so lovely to sit and draw this morning and makes me realise all over again how much I miss drawing. So I look forward to the next time I have some time to spare to continue this. n.b. no references used so far on this.

Enjoy!

Contets Prize Drawing - Ketza

I volunteered some prizes for :iconanthro-fantasy-club:.

This is :iconinku-inku:'s character Ketza, who "is a white anthro fox with three yellow eyes, human-like hands, and hooved digigrade legs." It was nice to draw anthro again, it's been ages (probably years) since I have! And to draw such an original anthro was even more lovely. I had fun on this. :-) It took about an hour in Photoshop.

1 prize down, 3 left to draw. :)

Enjoy!

Personalised bookmark commissions?

So I love making bookmarks; they're like mini projects! But I could also do with providing some cheaper budget alternatives for full size commissions...

What do you think of these? I would offer bookmarks backed on card approx 7x14cm for under £10. These would be *personalised 1 of a kind originals*. Sound appealing? Let me know!
